Dear Friends,
Some of our neighbors have to make impossible choices between putting food on the table and paying for rent, utilities, healthcare, and other basic needs. Thanks to your support, we have been doing our best to provide for all those who turn to us.
With the holiday season upon us, we need you more than ever. Together, we can provide all the extra trimmings for festive family meals throughout the holiday season, including turkey, fish, fresh produce, and holiday sides. Every dollar donated will help ensure no one goes hungry this winter and all of our families can enjoy special holiday celebrations together.
Over the past 4 years, our service numbers have skyrocketed. Last year, we provided 346,203 meals worth of food, and this year we anticipate giving close to 500,000 meals – compare that to just 65,907 meals in 2019. Demand for our services continues to reach new heights each month.
The fall and winter months are the hardest. We see the struggle as seasonal work slows down and utility bills spike. Wages have not kept up with inflation, and it’s affecting more and more families. The significant cost of food, gas, rent, home utilities, and other essentials has greatly impacted our neighbors’ ability to afford to live here.
The level of need can sometimes be hard to imagine. We aren’t talking about kids that just don’t have fancy shoes or video games at home. We often receive calls from school social workers where students have asked for help getting shampoo, soap, laundry detergent, socks, and underwear. Imagine the strain a 2nd grader must feel to ask their guidance counselor for help getting basic necessities. We receive referrals from teachers that students have emailed them on snow days and holidays that there is no food in their home, and they haven’t eaten since lunch the day before. Stories like these can be heart-wrenching, but together we can ensure every family in need receives our services.
Please help us make sure every child, family, and senior has enough to eat and a safe place to live. In this season of giving, we invite you to join us in our mission of helping our neighbors. Our caring community remains the driving force behind Heart of the Hamptons, and we thank you for your continued support!
Wishing you and your loved ones health and happiness this coming holiday season.
With deepest gratitude,
Molly Bishop
Executive Director
P.S. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
Will you help us reach our goal of $100,000 this year?
