PARTICIPATE IN THE POLAR BEAR PLUNGE OR MAKE A DONATION

The Polar Bear Plunge is one of the most popular events of the Southampton holiday season. Hundreds of plungers jump into the chilly water of the Atlantic Ocean to support local people in need. On every second Saturday morning in early December, hearty plungers gather at Cooper’s Beach in Southampton Village, many wearing festive costumes or joining teams to show their support.  The enthusiasm and excitement build as plungers await the boom of the canon signaling the start time. Then, in a wave of cheers from friends and family, they run for the water.  Members of the local fire, ambulance, and ocean water rescue departments and surfers are on hand to make sure all are safe.  Participants and fans enjoy hot drinks and food in the Cooper’s Beach Pavilion after the plunge. And all plungers get a special Polar Bear Plunge hat.

Since the first Polar Bear Plunge in 2004, the event has raised more than $700,000 to support Heart of the Hamptons and its programs to help people in need in Southampton.  All you have to do to join the fun is sign up and collect pledges of support (sponsors) from your family, friends and co-workers. Polar Bear Plunge and join us at the Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, December 9th at 9:30am for an exhilarating leap into the holiday spirit. We guarantee it will warm your heart. C’mon. We dare you! What you can do to help…

Where do the funds go?

Money raised by the annual Polar Bear Plunge goes directly to support programs that help people in need that live in our community. Your participation helps us stock our pantry shelves with healthy food, keep our donated clothing room organized, and offer assistance to children, families, senior citizens and veterans. It’s a fun way to give back to your community and help those who are struggling to make ends meet. Your support can help provide healthy summer lunch food for needy school children, send a cooked meal to a homebound or isolated resident, buy a pair of glasses for a local school child, purchase medical equipment, install a wheelchair ramp for a handicapped person, or brighten the holidays for a family with little to celebrate. Each year Heart of the Hamptons helps more than 1,500 people through our many outreach programs. Help us make your community a healthier, happier place for all.
